Ordering words alphabetically - colours

(0)
What’s included? x1 sheet, landscape orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for learners in the Early Years, pupils in Year 1 and 2 who are learning how to order words alphabetically. This resource is also ideal for older learners needing to revisit/practise the concept of alphabetical order. What’s it for? Using their alphabet knowledge learners cut out and order each colour word (balloon) included. This activity is ideal for individuals to be getting on with independently and has been designed to promote autonomy - clear answers are included yet are to be folded out of sight for learners to then check themselves after having a try. For learners needing more support this activity could completed with an adult. How to use it? Each colour word is clearly included under each coloured balloon at the top of the sheet. These are to be cut out (following the dotted lines) and the balloons ordered alphabetically on the grid-row included. For those learners needing additional support the colour words can be cross referenced with the alphabet included (at the top of the sheet) to help learners order these alphabetically. For more able learners/those needing a more of a challenge this supporting alphabet-reference can be folded back (out of sight) for learners to instead use their memory/recall their knowledge of the alphabet - to be used as appropriate depending on the needs of each learner. Resource Details… Learners will each need a pencil to write their name and record the number date (top, right). They will also need access to a pair of scissors and a glue stick. The x12 colour words included are: red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, blue, purple, pink, brown, black, silver and gold. Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. Feedback of this resource would be brilliant! **New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit ** https://alphabetlearning.online

Writing colour words (Phases 2, 3, 5) AND Ordering colour words alphabetically (two resources)

(0)
What’s included? x2 sheets, landscape orientation, pdf format. Two resources (two downloads) included. Who’s it for? These resources have been designed for learners in the Early Years and Years 1 and 2. Resource 1 is aimed at learners who have learnt phonics in Phases 2, 3 and 5 as well as older pupils who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds. Resource 2 is aimed at learners needing to practise ordering words alphabetically. What’s it for? Resource 1 enables learners to use their phonic knowledge (from phonics phases 2, 3 and 5) to write each colour word included. Resource 2 provides x12 colour words to order alphabetically - with an alphabet visual support provided to support learners (as needed). Both resources have been designed to promote autonomy - clear answers are included for learners to then check themselves after having a try. However - although answers are provided the design enables these to be folded out of sight while learners complete each activity. How to use it? In combining these two resources together learners can complete Resource 1 first (sounding out and writing colour words) before moving onto Resource 2 (ordering colour-words alphabetically). Resource 1 Each colour (balloon) has the correct number of lines underneath for learners to sound out each colour word and write the graphemes (on these lines). Resource 2 Once learners have completed writing the x8 colour-names (resource 1) in resource 2 each colour word is displayed under each of the x12 coloured balloons at the top of the sheet. These balloons are to be cut out (following the dotted lines) and the colour-words ordered alphabetically on the grid-row positioned in the centre of the sheet. Resource Details… Resource 1 The colour of each tick (above each balloon) indicates which phonics phase the sounds for that word are from making this ideal to target specific phonics areas and encouraging learners to practise their knowledge in this (colour word) context. Resource 2 Learners will each need a pencil to write their name and record the number date (top, right). They will also need access to a pair of scissors and a glue stick. How to use it? All sheets can be printed onto paper. Page 3 can be made into a miniature book (simple instructions included). To make a book scissors and a glue stick are all that is needed. Page 2 is the black and white version of page 1 but in addition includes the outline of each word with a starting dot for each letter - encouraging learners to write the word for each image themselves. Learners can also colour these images. Pages 1 and 2 could be used together as two sets of cards to play a pairs/matching game, for this these pages would be better printed onto card (so that the images cannot be seen through the back as would be the case if using paper). Resource details The images included for t are: teapot, teddy, (Toco!) toucan, tractor, tree, (turquoise/teal!) triangle, trophy, trousers, turkey and turtle. This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource is to reinforce learners knowledge of the ‘s’ sound, to practise matching two items with the same sound and to use their knowledge of the alphabet to make a a miniature ‘Ss’ book. This is a fun and engaging way to practise recognising the letter s, reinforcing learners knowledge of the initial ‘s’ sound and developing the skill of ordering items alphabetically. This resource is designed to be used by itself, however as other sets are available different sounds could be combined and presented to learners for them to sort according to which initial sound the different (mixed) images have. How to use it? All sheets can be printed onto paper. Page 3 can be made into a miniature book (simple instructions included). To make a book scissors and a glue stick are all that is needed. Once the book is made either the colour set of words/images (page 1) OR the black and white set of words/images (page 2) can be cut and ordered alphabetically and then stuck into the miniature book (one word/image per page). Page 1 is the colour version of words/images which all begin with ‘s’. These can be cut up (using the dotted lines as a guide for where to cut). Resource details The images included for s are: screwdriver, seal, seven, sun, sunflower, square, squirrel, starfish, strawberry and swan. Important message… ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes! Feedback of this resource would be excellent! Thank you! Phase 3 Phonics x5 sets Matching cut/stick

(0)
What’s included? x10 sheets (activity sheets with answers) for Phase 3 split into x5 activity sets. Portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This ‘phase 3’ phonics practise activity set has been designed to be a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for groups to be getting on with independently. Phase 2 (x4 sets) in same design is also available in my TES shop if you like this one. How to use it? Each learner needs to cut out x12 ‘phoneme pictures’ and match x2 of these ‘phoneme pictures’ to every grapheme (printed on the left of each sheet). Dotted lines guide where to cut, though picture-squares could be pre-cut for those who struggle with cutting out. Resource Details… Phase 3 has been split into five sets, one set per sheet. This set includes initial, middle and final sounds - learners may need this pointing out before working on these independently if you want them to be kept focused. Set 1 j - jeans, jigsaw (piece) v - volcano, van w - wall, window x - box, fox (learners may need help with identifying that the ‘x’ sound is at the end of these two words) y - yes, yellow z - zip, zebra Set 2 (‘zz’ is in the middle/end of words here and ‘ng’ is at the end) zz - pizza, fizz qu - queen, quarter ch - chocolate, cheese sh - shoe, shorts th - thumb, three ng - ring, wing Set 3 (two different ‘oo’ sounds here may confuse some learners) ai - train, rain ee - sheep, bee igh - night, light (bright also!) oa - goat, road oo - book, foot oo - moon, spoon Set 4 ar - star, shark or - fork, corn ur - burger, purse ow - cow, owl oi - oil, coin ear - beard, ear Set 5 (three sounds ‘ow’, ‘or’ and ‘ar’ are repeated from set 4 (using different phoneme pictures) to avoid leaving gaps and provide an opportunity to reinforce these sounds) air - airport, chair ure - picture, treasure er - ladder, finger (s) ow - brown, clown or - anchor, fort ar - guitar, car Optional Extension Adding the word labels is optional and best provided as an extension for more able/quick learners. These tiny labels can be cut out and added under each ‘phoneme picture’, though the phoneme/grapheme matching should be completed first. The word labels are not consistently sound-out-able and learners would need to use their knowledge of the phonemes/graphemes already matched during the activity and look at the initial/final letter sounds to help them. New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes four A4, pdf sheets (portrait) to practise handwriting x5 sounds. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to enable learners to practise handwriting the fourth set of phase 2 phonics letters - f ff l ll ss. Learners are guided where to write with a starting dot and grey letter shape to follow. There are four sheets included, slightly different in design and level of challenge/support provided, though each sheet is numbered 1 - 4 (at the top of each sheet). These numbers (and the cover image) left to right indicate the levels in order of easiest to hardest. Sheet 1 provides the most support with the least amount of challenge, sheet 4 provides the least amount of support with the most challenge. Learners could begin at sheet 1 and revisit these letters working through sheets 2 - 4 which incrementally provide less support yet more challenge each time. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource details This activity has been designed to write straight on. Letters include ‘starting dots’ so learners know where to place their pencil to begin and dots on top of letters guide where to write. Set 4 This set includes handwriting practise for x5 sounds - f ff l ll ss. Page 1 Learners have one set (row) of each letter/sound to write - using the starting dot and dotted lines (on top of each pale grey letter shape) as a guide. Page 2 Learners have two sets (rows) of each letter/sound to write - using the dotted lines as a guide for the first line. The second line includes the same (grey) letter shapes for learners to trace over without a starting dot and without the dotted line guides. Letters ‘f’ and ‘ff’ share the line (between the two) due to limited space. Page 3 Learners have two sets (rows) of each letter/sound to write - using the dotted lines as a guide for the first line. The second line includes some grey letter shapes for learners to trace over without a starting dot. There is also a blank space for learners to write their own letters after this for every letter. Letters ‘f’ and ‘ff’ share the line (between the two) due to limited space. Page 4 Learners have two sets (rows) of each letter/sound to write - using the dotted lines as a guide for the first line. The second line is a blank line for learners to write each support without any scaffolding support. Letters ‘f’ and ‘ff’ share the empty line (between the two) due to limited space.
